Acupuncture Significantly Improves Fertility.
Acupuncture is a treatment which can relieve symptoms of some physical and psychological conditions and may encourage the patients body to heal and repair itself, if it is able to do so.
Studies show that acupuncture significantly increases blood flow to the uterus which increases conception rates. In tests, researchers found that women suffering infertility problems had reduced uterine blood flow resulting in difficulty with conception.
Acupuncture can increase the chance of successful pregnancy in IVF / ICSI, as well as improving the quality of life for those undergoing IVF.
Acupuncture has 4 main effects by which it is said to improve outcome:
1/ It increases blood flow to ovaries and uterus
2/ Modulates neuroendocinological factors
3/ Modulates cytokines
4/ Reduces stress, anxiety and depression
Acupuncture can induce relaxation which is suggested may increase pregnancy rate in acupuncture group studies
Acupuncture may be used prior and post IVF treatment, where it is shown to be more superior to IVF alone.
Acupuncture & Poor IVF Responders - a study in April 2004 showed that the acupuncture group had a pregnancy rate of 53% compared to 38% for those who received IVF only.
Acupuncture reduces pain after IVF.
In PCOS it promotes ovulation, affects serum FSH resolving PCOS.
